A Simple, Seated, Sun Salutation

Here’s a simple practice suitable for most everybody! It’s especially useful if you’ve overindulged this festive season and are looking for a low-impact option to get the body moving.

Whether using a chair or not, movement and somatic practices like the Surya Namaskar have incredible benefits for both mind and body. A few rounds of this seated sun salutation will help you to ground and calm by toning your vagus nerve through gentle movements that compress and release through the abdomen. In addition to tapping into your vagal nerve, with regular practice, you’ll also increase muscle tone, reduce stress and anxiety and cultivate greater mind-body connection.

Please note: the chair should be a sturdy one and placed against the wall for extra support. You can place it on a yoga mat for additional stability.
